La phrase du jour est de Jane Metcalfe, dans une tribune intitulée Covid-19 Is Accelerating Human Transformation—Let’s Not Waste It. The Neobiological Revolution is here. Now’s the time to put lessons from the Digital Revolution to use, mise en ligne le 5 juillet 2020. J.Metcalfe, co-fondatrice dans les années 90 du magazine californien WIRED consacré aux nouvelles technologies, revient sur les nouvelles technologiques qui désormais permettent d’agir sur la biologie humaine, de modifier le corps et son fonctionnement. La biologie computationelle : “computational and bioengineering virtuosity » constitue le moteur de cette « révolution », rendue possible par l’alliance des technologies informatiques et de la connaissance du vivant. J. Metcalfe revendique d’ avoir prévu, dans un ouvrage antérieur, cette révolution néo-biologique en cours. A un point près : elle avoue ne pas avoir anticipé les nouvelles pratiques de partage des informations des connaissances, celles notamment qui ont pu être observées pendant la pandémie du Covid-19 : “This devastating pandemic, with all its worldwide chaos and horror, has at the same time created a perfect alignment of technology, science, need, and opportunity. En pendant de la révolution néo-biologique persistent malheureusement, selon elle, quelques problèmes au sein de la société humaine : « … how do we overcome our Paleolithic emotions (like fear, jealousy, and greed) and our medieval institutions (US health care, anyone?) to deploy our godlike technologies? » poursuit-elle.
